Permadeck with  soft single ply systems

It is well worth printing out this list and ticking off each item. They’re going to have to be done anyway!

 

1. If your joiner is fitting the final deck is it:

• Securely fixed?
• Evenly laid ie no boards sticking up?
• Kept 100% dry?
• Laid with good falls (and x-falls if necessary) to the gutter or outlet(s)?
• Have falls been checked with a spirit level?  If falls are poor you will get ponding, which will not affect Permadeck but may not look as good as you’d like.  

 

2. Are all abutments ABOVE the roof ready, eg:

 

• Adjoining walls ready for wall flashings?
• Slates/tiles ready?
• Cladding finished?   

 

3. Are all fascias fitted and flush with the final deck so that the Permadeck trims can be fitted tightly over     them?

 

4. Are all gutters fitted and at the correct distance down from the final surface?

 

5. If there are parapets to be encapsulated have they been clad with plywood?

 

6. Balconies & Patio doors:

 

• Has sufficient threshold been created?
• Has a lead flashing been fitted under the cill/frame?
• If Permadeck stanchion pads are to be fitted has their position been marked?

 

7. Rainwater outlets:

 

• Have the outlets been fitted?
• Are they flush with or (better still) slightly below the final deck level?
• Are pipes/conduits through parapets laid at an angle of at least 30°?

 

8. Mansards:

 

• Has the lead been fitted correctly ie on the vertical edge NOT on top of the plywood?                  

 

9. General:

 

• Is the roof clean and tidy and free of render splashes?  
• Make sure there are no gaps greater then 10mm between the final deck and abutments.
• Remove all staples used to hold down polythene (better still don’t use them at all as they break

and leave tiny rusty sharp spikes through the Permadeck).

• Is access to the roof muddy, which could contaminate the roof?

 

10. Final check:

 

Every roof is unique, please check anything that may affect the Permadeck but not mentioned above eg rooflights, vents, pipes etc.               

 

On the day:  

• Have other trades been told?   
• Is access and power available?
